Week4 Udutu Project

My Udutu lesson is on the Frog Life Cycle and it is geared towards lower elementary. In all honesty, at first I was not excited about using the Udutu because the format was foreign and challenging. But, I will say as I got started and played around with it I did enjoy myself. The best experience was Skyping with peers and asking each other questions and working through a portion of the workspace together. As a learner I do much better with instant hands-on direction. After Skyping it was much easier to navigate and understand the Udutu formats. Who knows I may even use Udutu in the future.

  1. Collette,
What a great way to introduce frog's life circle. I really liked the simple explanations and the division of lesson with frequent assessments. I think early elementary students would really enjoy the lesson and learn a lot about frog's life. Great job!

  2. Your lesson on the life cycle of frogs appears well executed for the grade level you teach. It seems easy to navigate, and your learners will appreciate this as a review or stand-alone lesson of what you do in the classroom.

I am in agreement with Skyping with peers to understand Udutu. I did the same - it just seems more personal.

  3. Collette,

You effectively leveraged the UDUTU components to create a solid tutorial on the frog life cycle. I like how the assessments were included immediately after each topic. I think using a movie for each element with text to highlight significant information would have been more engaging for young students, BUT to do so would have made this project WAY too time consuming given the schedule we are on. I love the concept, however. Great job!

  4. Collette,
You may know I love frogs so this UDUTU was right up my alley. I believe you did a wonderful job targeting your learner group. It was easy to follow, clearly written and engaging.

The assessment number 2 might need some adjustment before presenting this to a classroom. I could not get it to work and might send an elementary student into a tail spin.

No tadpoles here but I hear my frogs calling in the wee hours of the morning while working late with FSO.

  5. Collette,
Fantastic job. Simplistic, easy to navigate, great visuals, and I love the font. Providing frequent assessments throughout the project is a great strategy for younger students. I too think having video or narration would have provided an even more engaging experience, time was a factor here as it was for my project as well. I wanted to add so much more to mine but couldn't fit it into our busy schedule. Overall, you did a great job. I would definately use this as one of my science lessons.:-)

  6. Collette,

Great topic. I learned a lot. Every easy to follow and understand. The life cycle can be complex and your explanations, images and continuity made the topic fun and simple. I learned a lot.

I now have a new found information on the life cycle of a frog. You did a great job illustrating and developing your assessments. Good job I'm sure you will use this with your classes. Your students will love this interactive way of learning. Once again good job. P.S I know it was troubling at times but it paid off at the end. I did have difficulty with slide assessment 11 multiple choice matching the pictures. Other than that Thumbs up

  8. Hi Collete. I will share to my colleagues in science ancillary your module. The kids will definitely enjoy it.

Good for you for having somebody to Skype to help you a little bit on Udutu. I wish I can do that but my schedule will not permit it so I have to do it alone in misery ☺

Anyway, your module is straightforward and simple. You can still tweak it a little bit but given a short time for all of us, it’s not bad. The important thing is we have been exposed to this kind of media. Good luck and let’s press forward for the next month’s class.

  9. Collette,

Nice work on your Udutu project. For not liking the application you did a wonderful job. I do understand not liking the application. In the begging I struggled with the user interface as well.

Overall the application can be advantageous for trainers and teachers. Maybe some assignment could be created as homework and then accessed from home or some other computer they access to.
